The minute the weather goes from its usual modus operandi of sun, sun and more sun, people start exclaiming โOh, thereโs nothing to do in Marbella in the rain!โ This is a bold statement that we have heard a few times, usually on one of the 45 days a year when it might rain in Marbella.ย Itโs a little over dramatic to say the least.
We are here to dispel that myth!
Is there really nothing to do when it rains in Marbella?
We are sorry, but there is plenty to do in Marbella in the rain, cloud, wind or fog. In fact, pick any type of bad weather you like, there is still a fantastic amount of things you can do in Marbella when it (rarely) happens.
What exactly are these people doing in other cities when it rains anyway?ย What we think they really mean is that they are not used to it raining in Marbella. We totally understand, as itโs known for its 320 days of sunshine a year. So now, we are just going to come out and say it: These people are afraid of change, thatโs whatโs happening!!
Sitting inside instead of outside is perfectly possible here. Hello! Think about it, all restaurants have an indoor area – the risk of getting oneโs hair wet in the rain can still be mitigated by using an umbrella. Itโs easy.
Contrary to popular belief, there are actually plenty of things to do when it rains in Marbella! Here are just a few ideas to get you started.
-
Go Shopping.
Marbella is home to some of the best shopping in Spain. From high-end designer stores to quaint local boutiques, there’s something for everyone. And what better way to spend a rainy day than by indulging in a little retail therapy?
-
Visit a Spa or Wellness Centre.
The spa at Swish Villas is a favorite among our guests, and we believe itโs the perfect place to relax and recharge on a rainy day. With a heated pool, sauna and steam room, as well as a full range of treatments on offer, you’re sure to find something to suit your needs and take your mind of the terrible rain. Which actually probably isnโt that bad anyway!
-
Have Lunch at one of Marbella’s many Michelin-starred Restaurants.
With over 80 Michelin-starred restaurants spread across Spain, Marbella has its fair share and is renowned for its culinary scene. So why not take advantage of the moist weather and enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of these top-rated establishments? You won’t be disappointed! Head to the Golden Mile and youโll find a few.
-
Take a Walk through The Old Town.
Just because it’s raining doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the city’s sights! The Old Town is especially beautiful when it’s wet, as the cobbled streets and quaint buildings take on a whole new look when they’re glistening with raindrops. Just be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring an umbrella! (Itโs that pointy thing you use in the bad weather, you know, the thing at the back of your closet!)
-
Head to the Movies.
When all else fails, there’s always the cinema, flix or whatever you want to call it: Curl up with a bag of popcorn and enjoy some Hollywood escapism at one of Marbella’s cinemas. With blockbuster hits and independents alike showing regularly, you’re sure to find something that appeals. Plus, in Puerto Banus the cinema shows selected films in English and other languages too, (known here as โversion original.โ)
Next time someone tells you there’s nothing to do when it rains in Marbella, don’t believe them! There are plenty of fun activities to keep you entertained, whether you’re looking for some retail therapy, a chance to relax and rejuvenate, or just a way to pass the time indoors. Whatever you choose to do, make the most of those rain showers and enjoy everything that this beautiful city has to offer!
Should it rain on your Swish vacation, the team is on-hand to provide umbrellas, recommend hair stylists and even order you a private chef who can rustle up a marvellous, warming meal for you and your party.
