Going to Marbella? Youโre probably, quite rightly, extremely excited. But what if there is a shade of doubt in the back of your mind, that eternal, impossible question: What will I need to wear?
In fact, what do other people wear in this oh- so- chic destination?
The fashionable resort of Marbella on Spain’s Costa del Sol is all about luxury and relaxation in one…so itโs important to still look good without trying too hard. Here’s a few tips so you can be sure you’re outfit-ready for absolutely anything that Marvellous Marbella throws your way.
How do People Dress in Marbella?
In Marbella, youโll certainly see variety. There are surfer types, beach club fashionistas wanting to be seen, slick looking business professionals who seem to dress smartly in the heat without effort, and the designer addicts. Somehow, it all blends together and just works, creating a cosmopolitan melting pot of both culture and style.
Fashion in Marbella
Recently we published our own guide, where to shop in Marbella. Fashion gurus will love the city, as high- end brands like Chanel are now popping up on The Golden Mile as well as in Puerto Banus. In a resort known for its Old School Chic and timeless glamour, youโll see some high fashion pieces. But rather than wearing labels for labelsโ sake, in Marbella, itโs all about style.
When it comes to accessories, big is definitely better, and youโll see some strong looks. ย What really stand out are the numerous individual boutiques peppered across the old town. As you watch the world go by in an outdoor terrace cafรฉ, youโll see well-dressed tourists and locals alike, sporting interesting accessories, shawls and pashminas or looking cool behind their large dark sunglasses.
The sunshine generally brings out a more flamboyant side to our clothing choices and Marbella is no exception, with its 320 days of sunshine per year. ย That sombre โNew Yorker styleโ all-in-black wardrobe doesnโt apply here. Trust us, youโll want to experiment with brighter colours and more daring styles, especially with a hint of a suntan.ย You can find stores inside the Puente Romano. Dare to try one of their bold, patterned dresses or choose a bright accessory to set-off your look. Go on, we know you want to!
Very Hot Weather Wear in Marbella
When the sun is out and you want to enjoy all that Marbella has to offer, you’ll want to dress comfortably but also be mindful of the city’s upscale vibe. Here, glamour really is in fashion so elegance is the name of the game. Opt for light layers like a breezy tunic or kaftan over a swimsuit for lounging around at the beach bar or lunching at one of the delicious beachfront seafood restaurants. Add a wide-brimmed hat and oversized sunglasses for extra vacation vibes (and protection from the Mediterranean sun!).
Once you venture away from the beach, remember youโre in a city. Swimsuits and cover ups donโt cut it for walking around The Old Town. Instead, opt for something cool and simple in the summer months. You could try a flowing maxi dress or linen trousers with a blouse and espadrille wedges. This look is perfect for shopping at one of Marbella’s many designer boutiques or strolls around Puerto Banus. Don’t forget to pack a scarf or light jacket for chilly evenings (even in hot weather.)
For men, shorts are useful and look great with a shirt, but for the more conservative among us, opt for loose trousers or jeans which can be worn in the day or evening.
Evening Clothing in Marbella
Once the sun goes down, the real fun begins in Marbella! Whether you’re enjoying drinks on a rooftop bar or dancing the night away at one of the many clubs, you’ll want to dress to impress. Depending on your style, a glam jumpsuit or bodycon dress is always a good choice for an evening out, just add some heels and shimmery accessories to take your look from day to night.
What to Wear in Marbella in The Cooler Months
Marbella does have a winter but not as you know it if youโre from a colder country! The winter months here never get too cold, so youโll need a light coat or can even get away with a jacket for most of the out of season time. We cannot get enough layers to get us through the off-peak seasons. Often, itโs warm in the middle of the day and youโll need a light T-shirt but by evening youโll need to wrap up more. Jeans are another good staple, which can be easily worn day or night here.
How to Pack a Capsule Wardrobe for Marbella
We have already discussed in length How to pack light for a glamorous trip to Marbella. But what about the infamous capsule wardrobe? Does anyone actually do that these days? We can tell you that some of our most organised guests do, basing their holiday wardrobe around a few staples, but bringing just the right number of accessories to create a few different looks. Then on the other hand, we also have those who definitely donโt pack light, and with walk in wardrobes like this one, we donโt blame them either!
