The Total Solar Eclipse in Marbella: Where Will You Be on 2 August 2027?

On the morning of Monday 2 August 2027, Marbella will fall into darkness.

For approximately three minutes and 20 seconds, the Moon will completely cover the Sun, revealing its outer atmosphere and turning a summer morning on the Costa del Sol into something extraordinary.

Marbella is not simply close to the action. It sits within the path of totality, making it one of the few places in Europe where visitors will be able to experience the eclipse in full.

If you have ever needed a reason to plan ahead for Marbella, this may be it.

What will happen during the 2027 solar eclipse?

A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly between the Earth and the Sun.

From locations within the path of totality, the Sun is briefly obscured. Daylight fades, the temperature can fall and the Sun’s corona becomes visible around the dark outline of the Moon.

The eclipse on 2 August 2027 will travel from the Atlantic across southern Spain and North Africa before continuing through parts of the Middle East.

Spain’s National Geographic Institute confirms that the path of totality will cover much of Cádiz and Málaga provinces, including Marbella. In Europe, totality will only be visible from southern Spain.

What time is the eclipse in Marbella?

Current astronomical calculations indicate that the partial eclipse will begin in Marbella at approximately 9.42am.

Totality is expected to begin shortly before 10.47am and continue until around 10.50am, giving Marbella approximately three minutes and 20 seconds of complete eclipse. The partial phase should finish shortly after midday.

Exact timings can vary slightly according to your position, so they should be checked again against official guidance closer to the date.

The morning timing is part of what makes Marbella such an appealing place to experience the event. You will not need to wait until late in the day, and the Sun should be high enough above the horizon to provide a clear view from a suitably open location.

Why experience the eclipse in Marbella?

The eclipse alone will be worth travelling for. Marbella turns it into a holiday.

August is already one of the liveliest times of the year on the Costa del Sol. Days begin outside, lunches drift into the afternoon and warm evenings are made for eating beside the sea.

A stay built around the eclipse could include breakfast at your villa before watching totality, followed by lunch at one of Marbella’s beachfront restaurants and an afternoon by the pool.

Our guide to Marbella’s beach clubs and beachfront restaurants includes venues personally recommended by the Swish concierge team, from MC Beach and La Plage Casanis to Nosso Summer Club and Ocean Club.

Those who want to see another side of the city can also explore authentic Marbella, including its traditional tapas bars, markets and Old Town streets.

The eclipse may last a few minutes. The experience around it deserves longer.

Where is the best place to watch the eclipse in Marbella?

The best viewing location will have an open view of the sky, with no nearby buildings, trees or terrain obscuring the Sun.

A private villa may provide one of the most comfortable ways to experience the event. Instead of travelling to a crowded public viewing point on the morning itself, you could watch from a terrace, garden or pool area, provided the property has the right orientation and an unobstructed outlook.

It also gives family and friends the space to experience the moment together.

Swish Marbella manages a carefully selected collection of luxury villas across Marbella’s most sought-after areas. We know the properties, their surroundings and the practical details that cannot always be understood from a listing alone.

Speak to our team before booking and we can help identify villas with suitable outdoor space and open views. Final viewing suitability will still depend on the Sun’s position, surrounding terrain and weather on the day.

How to watch the eclipse safely

Looking directly at the Sun can cause permanent eye damage, including during the partial phases of an eclipse.

Ordinary sunglasses are not sufficient. Use certified solar eclipse glasses designed specifically for direct solar viewing and follow official safety instructions.

Cameras, binoculars and telescopes also require appropriate solar filters. Looking through magnifying equipment without the correct protection is particularly dangerous.

During the brief period of complete totality, when the Sun is fully obscured, official guidance may allow eclipse glasses to be removed. They must be put back on as soon as the Sun begins to reappear.

Follow current advice from the Spanish National Geographic Institute and other recognised astronomical authorities at the time of the event.

Swish Marbella will share updated practical information with guests closer to the date as official local arrangements are confirmed.

Why it is worth planning early

The eclipse falls in August, already one of Marbella’s busiest months.

It is also a rare event with international appeal. Visitors will be travelling specifically to reach locations inside the path of totality, placing additional demand on accommodation, transport and suitable viewing locations.

The next total solar eclipse visible from Spain will not take place until 2053.

If you are considering Marbella for August 2027, it makes sense to begin the conversation early. This is particularly true for larger groups, families who need specific facilities or guests looking for villas with extensive outdoor space and open views.

Make Marbella part of the moment

A total solar eclipse is difficult to describe until you have seen one.

For a few minutes, a familiar landscape changes. The light falls, the temperature shifts and everyone stops to look at the same sky.

In Marbella, that moment can be experienced from the privacy of a luxury villa, followed by everything else the city does so well: the sea, the food, the long afternoons and the warm August evenings.

Browse our collection of luxury villas in Marbella or contact the Swish team to discuss a stay around the total solar eclipse on 2 August 2027.

We will help you find the right villa and plan the days around an occasion that may never be repeated in quite the same way.
