The 5 Stages of Coping with The End of Summer

The 5 Stages of Coping with The End of Summer

It happens every year. Summer can’t last forever, so why does it feel like those hazy, endless sunny days just didn’t last long enough?

Below are the five phases of the summer blues and how to overcome them. If you’re anything like us, you’ll go through these five stages before you finally just get on with it and move on with your autumnal life.

Which stage are you at?

  1. Denial: Pretend it’s not happening

Just because the shops are selling winter clothing and some of the beach bars are about to close for the season, it doesn’t mean you are ready to give up. We see you, out there on the lounger from seven a.m. catching every bit of summer you can!

    Denial

  2. Bargaining: Make a deal with the weather gods.

If you promise to never complain about the heat again, maybe they’ll give you one more week of summer?

    Bargaining

  3. Anger: Why does it have to end?

It’s not fair! Lash out at anyone who tries to tell you that summer is over. We all know it’s really just winter in disguise anyway…

    Anger

  4. Depression: Hide away from the world under a pile of blankets with some comfort food.

At least you get to eat ice cream in this phase!

    Depression

  5. Acceptance: Embrace the change of season.

Now you can enjoy all the wonderful things that autumn has to offer. After all, it’s not like we don’t have anything to look forward to in the next few months… Christmas, anyone?

    Acceptance

So, there you have it, the five stages we go through at this time of year. Just remember, it happens every year so there’s no use getting too upset about it! The good news is that in Marbella, temperatures remain high well into the autumn months so really you have much longer to deal with this inevitable change than elsewhere!

This too shall pass…
